Sukhothai and Ayutthaya , display the relics of two section shaping cultures. Thailand 's global importance also figures as significantly today as it did in history, with several nature preserves.

» The earliest civilization in Thailand is believed to have been that of the Mons in central Thailand , who brought a Buddhist culture from the Indian subcontinent. In the 12th century, this met a Khmer culture moving from the east, the Sumatran-based Srivijaya culture moving north, and citizens of the Thai state of Nan Chao, in what is now southern China , migrating south. Thai princes created the first Siamese capital in Sukhothai and later centres in Chiang Mai and, notably, Ayuthaya. The very old ancestry of Thai culture, similar to most of South East Asia , bares a strong Indian control, from Buddhism and mythology to the Royal Family tradition, there is an clear relationship with many Hindu beliefs. Of course, the development of Thai culture goes far past the influence of a single religion. People have lived in the area known as Thailand for at least 27,000 years.
» In Thailand , kite flying is not just a casual attempt to see how high it can be made to soar into the sky. It is an ancient sport dignified by rules and regulations and a heritage involving everyone from kings to commoners. Kite flying as a sport has been popular since the reign of King Ramkamhaeng of the Sukhothai period, some seven hundred years ago.
